Community picket

Direct action at Paperlinx who destroy native forest and import illegally logged tropical rainforest.

Roger Scully, global corporate pirate, supports Paperlinx destructive policies.

Roger can barely hide his contempt for these pathetic individuals who espouse social and environmental justice.

Roger sympathises with his mate the logger (who can't stand him but needs the job). It can't be all that bad Roger, after all you're even getting support from sections of the environment movement.

Stuff Paperlinx... boycott all their products especially REFLEX copy paper.

Joint action by FoE forest and trade campaigns at Consolidated Paper Industries against Indonesian rainforest paper imports (that are often sourced from illegally logged rainforest).

The community picket\blockade at CPI was a success

Rogers hobbies are chainsaws, profit and death.

Traffic Jam, trucks denied access.

CPI HQ loses some of its gloss. The tall one on the right (where else?) is not Mr Potatohead, it's the evil spectre of big business.

While we acknowledge that CPI distribute some environmentally and socially good paper products they will be subject to our attention until they remove Indonesian rainforest paper from their inventory.

IMPORTERS OF INDONESIAN RAINFOREST PAPER STOP WORK!!

Friday 31st May, Friends of the Earth Australia participated in the FoE International Day of Action for the Earth Summit by paying a surprise visit to Consolidated Paper Industries, a company that imports 10,000 tonnes of paper products from Indonesia every year.

Thirty people from the FoE Forests and Trade collectives attracted radio and TV media and were successful in stopping deliveries for three hours. The group had an informal meeting with the Chief Operations Officer who blamed "market forces" for the company's continued importation of Indonesian paper. The Officer agreed with Friends of the Earth that greater regulations are needed from Governments in order for environmental concerns to be addressed in trade practices.

While the WSSD Preparations are happening in Bali, paper from Indonesia's pristine rainforests is being exported around the world at bargain prices. A study by the UK Government in 1999 found that 73 per cent of Indonesian paper and pulp products is coming from undocumented and presumably illegal sources. (Roundwood Supply and Demand in the Forest Sector in Indonesia UK Tropical Forest Management Programme, 8 December 1999). The Indonesian military relies on revenue from illegal sources, including logging, for at least half of its operational costs. (Indonesia: Natural Resources and Law Enforcement, International Crisis Group (ICG), December 2001).

A strong message was sent today that an international Code of Conduct is the only thing that can bind corporations to ensure that environmental, human rights and labour considerations are not undermined by trade and competition.

The FoE websites on WSSD are available at: http://www.foe.org.au/nc/nc_rio.htm and http://www.rio-plus-10.org

24-5-02

A great crew of locals held back logging in the Jubilee Lake coup (near Daylesford today). NRE are really pushing for logging to proceed - with 20 NRE officers at the coupe today.

NRE have decided to allow logging while members of the public are within logging coupes in the Wombat forest. NRE is allowing logging up to 25m of protesters. This blatant disregard for public safety is completely outrageous, and this concern is shared by Workcover - who will be attending the Jubilee Lake coup on friday.

People are urgently needed tomorrow (fri 24 may).

To get to the coupe - drive towards Daylesford, and just before you get into town, turn right into Jubilee Lake Road, the road will turn to dirt (at a caravan park), drive on the dirt for about one kilometre and then turn right into Cockatoo tk, where you will see the coupe.
